The Pillow Tray is a sculptural tray made from fine concrete, hand-cast in Berlin. Its form resembles a soft, sunken cushion – a deliberate contrast to the solid, weighty material it’s made from.
This object explores the interplay between form and material, illusion and reality. What appears soft is, in fact, hard. The familiar shape of a pillow is reinterpreted in concrete, creating a visual tension that invites closer inspection.
Each piece is individually cast, resulting in unique surface variations that reflect the manual process – subtle textures, casting lines, and occasional air pockets add to its character. Measuring 15 × 15 × 5 cm (6 × 6 × 2 in) and weighing approximately 1.3 kg (2.8 lbs), the Pillow Tray is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use thanks to the durability and weather resistance of the material.
Whether used functionally as a resting place for small items or simply as a minimalist sculpture, the Pillow Tray stands as a quiet contradiction – soft in appearance, solid in essence.
